Title: The Relationship Between Nitrate in Antarctic Snow/Firn and the Ozone Hole

Expert Profile:

Shi Guitao is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Geographic Sciences, East China Normal University. His main research focuses on modern environmental processes in Antarctic snow and firn, and ice core climate records. He has organized and participated in four Antarctic scientific expeditions, served as the deputy station master of China's Antarctic Kunlun Station, and led the team that drilled the first deep ice core in Antarctica for China. He has made a series of significant achievements in the areas of modern environmental processes, changes, and mechanisms of polar snow and ice, as well as ice core climate records, laying a foundation for a deeper understanding of polar climate and environmental change. He has presided over (or completed) more than 10 projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Key R&D Program. He has published over 100 papers and works in journals such as Nature Geoscience and Nature Communications. In 2019, he was funded by the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars. In 2020, he was selected for the Shanghai Outstanding Academic Leaders Program. In 2021, he received the Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award of the Shanghai Ocean Science and Technology Award. He currently serves as the Chinese national representative for the International Partnerships in Ice Core Sciences (IPICS), Vice Director of the Marine Geography Committee of the Geographical Society of China, a committee member of the Chinese National Committee for the International Association of Cryospheric Sciences (IACS), and a committee member of the Polar Quaternary Committee of the Chinese Association for Quaternary Research.
